BIOGRAPHY
National award winning artist Rod Hayslip has a Bachelors degree in Art Education. At university he studied under Pheoris West with an emphasis on the human form. He has exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the United States and Japan and his contemporary art is in collections throughout North America. Additionally, he is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society where he has received their “Award of Distinction”.
In the past decade, Hayslip’s work has evolved into its current focus on street scenes often with elevated views of people in crosswalks. In a way, it is a return to his artistic interest in the human form.
During Covid, Rod left NYC and returned to Central Ohio. He is the Lead Host for Central Ohio Plein Air, one of America’s oldest and most active groups for outdoor painters. He is also a member of the Ohio Plein Air Society.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My paintings are expressions of human narratives. These stories emerge in front of me on the easel as I create. They also readily lend themselves to the narrative inventions of other viewers—many stories from one painting.
